Marie Gudme Leth
Marie Christine Mathea Gudme Leth (1895-1997) was an outstanding Danish textile artist who pioneered screen printing for industrial production in Denmark.
She created a number of classic textile designs that became immensely popular in their day and still continue to delight a modern audience. In 1941, she opened her own workshop where she first concentrated on prints of flowers and animals before turning to more geometrical designs. Marie Gudme Leth achieved great recognition both in Denmark and internationally. Among other things, she received a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937 and at the Triennale in Milan in 1951.
